If your ball and trunion shaft is in good shape you won't have an issue. Now a days there are many OEM shaft that bolt on in the same manner. So upgrades are available. Swapping from the 62-64 tailhousing and output shaft to 65 parts will allow you to run a standard style drive shaft. Though there is a raised area just ahead of the output splines on a 65 shaft. The later yoke needs to be shortened about 5/16".

when you say the later yoke needs shortened, is that the factory style with the [approximately 1" of missing splines at the front], or the shorter aftermarket style with the yoke having all splines, or both ?
