Some of it is temp related. The annular boosters work great in cold weather but a down leg will typically make more power in a race engine in a 4150 carb. Annular booster 4150 will usually make a bunch more low end torque than a dog leg, but the dog leg wins up top. So basically the annular booster 4150 might be better for a street car, but race cars usually get a dog leg booster in a 4150. The 4500 is a different story of course.
And these are just rough generalizations. I don't think anyone has ever been able to show that one is better than the other for all situations. There are just certain situations where one type of booster will work better than another.
