So... I'm building this motor with .030 over pistons (4.03" bore)... I bought the rotating assembly used off market place for a decent deal. Got it all machined and I'm ready to start file fitting these Total seal rings I got in the kit... put the first top ring in the bore and the sucker is butt up against itself hard.... only then for whatever reason I checked the part number to find they're .035" oversize... I asked my machinist what the deal was, did this guy [censored] up or did he do it for a reason? Machinist says "Because that's the trend. It's gay" laugh2. He didn't really offer an explanation for it tho, other that it became a thing about 20 years ago. Has anyone else heard of this? Is this peoples attempt to fine tune ring tension? I'm not really looking forward to grinding the [censored] out of all 4 rings for each cylinder.....
