Freezing ice cold water does wonders in preserving wood. smile

3 things take out wood, air, water or bugs. Remove any of the 3 and wood lasts a long time. One reason lead paint was so good (killed bugs and sealed wood from air) posts from an old pier under water line are still there and bugs hate redwood, Spanish cedar or any wood with oily sap.
