We were a bit north of the path between Mayfield and Kentucky Lake, and lucked out. I've only seen pictures and video, as officials started limiting traffic in affected areas this morning, especially Mayfield. One of my coworkers lives in viewing distance of KYLake. His house and his neighborhood were flattened, he told me by text. I've seen up close the damage from a F1-F2 funnel, several years ago in Southern IL. Just in photos and video, this is MUCH worse. The power in these things is hard to believe. It's not just the wind speed they generate, there is so much shear, from changing angles, plus lift near the base, and so much more. It's difficult to design something to withstand one, if it's not buried.
