Do you mean it idles for a moment then dies? Or that it will idle until you try to open the throttle? Or that the rpms are all over and then it dies?

I was driving my 2004 Durango down the street, slowed to turn left at a light and it coughed and stalled. I coasted around the turn, popped it in neutral and cranked it back up but it was running rough and smoking under the hood. The big and small ends of #6 rod got divorced, and the remainder of the big end windowed both sides of the block above the pan rail. Still ran and didn't leak a drop of coolant...
