It is supposed to allow the shift to be quicker because the band doesn't have to release. I have coasted mine in low gear many times with no ill effects or sprag problems. Never at high speed but Its not uncommon for me to knock it down into low as I roll up to an intersection. With my 727 it did that for 14-15 years at least for thousands of miles of driving, my 904 not as much but plenty. If I ever move to a low bad apply VB I will probably eat the steering wheel a few times before I change my ways haha.
