whenever I am outside on a cold snowy day, and only a few feet from the comfort of my home, I wonder what it would be like to be in a foxhole or trench in similar conditions- with no idea of when the situation would end.

Not even a do this post for four hours, and you will be relieved to get some hot food and warm shelter. My uncle started at Normandy, all thought the Bulge, death camps. If I endured that, I would have made a point to never be cold again. Arizona, or Florida here I come.

When a younger relative would say " I don't think I could have done what you did", they generally replied "yes, you would" Most of them didn't see themselves as anything special.

Shout out to the WW2 Canadian soldiers too. Like the US they decided it was for the good of mankind to become involved.
