To the original OP's question, there are no natural sources of pure consumable Hydrogen.
Our current technology is only using Hydrogen as an energy storage medium/source, aka a "gas" battery.
Something needs to contribute energy to produce the pure hydrogen to "burn" later, that can by a number of processes, solar being the least environment impacting..
That original energy used to make pure hydrogen is energy source for the consumption of using hydrogen for vehicle propulsion.
The good thing, water is made partly of hydrogen, so its availability is nearly unlimited as a source for hydrogen..
