Hijack all you want as we are here to solve as many problems/issues as possible. I gain knowledge here every day. I would turn the key to "run" & grab my meter & the coil positive primary terminal & the ECU power terminal (red if OE/blue yellow if MP pigtail harness) both need to be hot.
