I taped a piece of cardboard on the floor and then drove the car on it, positioning a rear wheel on it. Then I pulled the wheel and used a plumb bob to mark out everything on the cardboard.

The spring, hub, wheel well, etc. That is the most accurate way I have found to KNOW where everything is and to have a constant reference when researching wheels.

And be sure to do both sides to catch any differences.
