No answer to your question, except I have thought about Explorers before. I think you'd have to do a frame graft. The Expedition came with solid axles front and rear, no independence there!

Is it worth it? I have a friend who put a Jaguar rear under a Toyota 4WD pickup. As there was rust to repair and because he could, he shortened up the bed quite a bit and eliminated a lot of rear overhang. As the Jag center is a Dana 44, he was able to swap gears to match the front diff.

The results were very good. It rides better offroad than anything he has ever been in before, and the short overhangs front and rear help keep from hanging up. So I believe it is worth it, for someone who would use it.
