I agree. Most pushrod aren't stiff enough.

I went with the same deal as you are considering. I damn near bought 11/32-5/16 single taper pushrods but I'm getting ready to do W-2 heads so I said screw it.

That engine will get 3/8-7/16 double taper pushrods even tough it will be SFT.
