JUST NOW!!! on Mythbusters that principle was proven. A 1" dia hose, Adam blowing into the hose. Can lift a 1 1/8th pound weight.
The same hose, blowing into a plastic bag of whatever size it was, say 1 foot by 1 foot, he could lift 125 pounds. Yes he did state what the square inches was on the bag, and it was even drawn out on the bag, but I forget what it was.
