My technical information says:

-8AN metal tubing outside OD - 1/2"
-8AN hose ID - .438"
-10AN hose ID - .562"

If you are referencing mil-spec or AN hardware - bolts, screws, etc. - then yes, -8 is 1/2", -6 is 3/8", etc.
