If your leaving the distributor and oil pump drive gear in the motor remove the 4 3/8 bolts that hold the oil pump into the block, don't loosen and remove the two 5/16 bolts that hold the oil pump cover onto the oil pump body tsk and then see if the oil pump will pull straight down to remove it, if not try twisting the oil pump back and forth a little to break the gasket away from the pump and the engine block. Once you have it removed do what you want with it and when your ready to reinstall it use a tiny bit of oil on the O ring on the oil pump body snout that slides up into the block, twist it back and forh sideways as needed to engage the oil pump drive shaft into the oil pump rotor. Once you have the two mated slide it in all the way up into the block and install the 4 3/8 bolts and tighten to 20 to 30 ft lbs, do not over tighten them tsk Make sure the oil pump gasket to the block is in good shape or replace it and make sure none of the old gasket material is left on the block or oil pump body scope Good luck, some of the different year and body style K members and engine munts need the pump to be rotated a little from straight up and down for the pump bolts to be able to be removed and drop out, on those type you need to put all four bolts in the pump and hold them in before trying to reinstall the pump into the block up
