I've always slid steel braided line over my tranny cables in tight spots, it not only protects the cable against direct heat it also helps contain the inner cable should the outer casing eventually wear through...


I just pull off the cable nuts and squish the braided line over, it's tough to get the braided line over the threaded end at first, but it will go. And it works.
