I've done a few of these myself and in my opinion it really is the best way to restore a Space Saver spare. Bring it to a place that is well known for installing larger tires like 22 inch and bigger. They have the correct equipment. You really need that small low profile adjustable angle nylon wheel that a good tire machine has to get just the right angle while carefully removing the space saver tire. Getting it mounted back on it much easier. I look at it this way. Take it to the guys that remove and install very expensive large rims. They generally are programmed to be very careful with your wheels. After you do the restoration work on the rim, guys like that tend to actually care about not messing up your rim. Last one I did, drew a ton of attention from the younger guys working there when it came time to inflate the tire to seat it on the rim. They all had thier cell phones out taking videos. lol
