I know a guy that had that exact setup in his Dart for years. Never heard of it being an issue. Not sure if he still has it or not. I'm sure it will work for what you're doing just fine. Don't let the haters ruin your day. I run a line lick turned backwards like described above to lock out the back brakes; I prefer having control of the brake pressure while on the throttle.
