If it's an A-230 you should be OK
IIRC, the A-230 gear ratios are different between the /6-318 and the 340/383 transmissions.

I ran a A230 3 speed one season in my 360 circle burner & did great. It'll have an A230 on a small machined pad on the side of the trans(I forget which side). the 1st gear is 1.49 if V8 & 1.70 if /6 one & the 2nd ratios were different but I cant remember what they were & 1st gear is synchronized also & I believe pilot dia was 4.70". EDIT might have been 4.35", its been awhile

Those are second gear ratios, but, spot on.

I looked it up /6-318 has a 1-2-3 of
3.08/1.70/1
340-383 = 2.55/1.49/1
