I have a pretty close to stock 440 six pack with an automatic and no stall converter. Yesterday I took the car for the first time out an took 2 lobes off the MP purple Cam and wrecked 2 lifters. I don't know any history on the motor build other that it sat a long time. I don't have much confidence in choosing a new cam and lifters for this motor, just want it to be powerful yet street able with the automatic.

Did you do some sort of pre start lubing procedure?

Like:
-pre-lube the motor like it was a fresh start up through the distributor.
-While doing that spin the motor and check is the valve train was getting oil
-Maybe put some additive in their too

I could have been worn before you even started it up. Might want to check seat pressures and size of valve springs.
