CAM HELP
for those of you keeping score at home, i tore down my perfectly running n/a hemi.. 68 barracuda
now i am going the turbo route
parts are coming in
and its time to decide on a cam
i have 76mm t4 turbo
a 2006 5.7 short block
2008 6.1 heads and intake
85mm throttle body
3k ish stall
373 gear
27 inch drag radial

What cam do you have in it now? How much horsepower do you want to make? Are you running a stock short block? I ask because they say 8psi is all the stock pistons can handle. Ring gap is also critical. That's probably a bigger contributing factor than weak pistons. Of course tuning is critical. But I know you are aware of that.

Best thing to do would be to call a vendor like modern muscle, hhp, Arrington, inertia. Etc and get several suggestions from those guys. They spec cams all day and know their shtuff.

I have a magazine article where they took an 06 5.7 stock short block and opened up the ring gaps to like 0.030, ported the heads, added a 6.1 intake and crane cam and put 17.3 psi to make 1127 hp. That's probably a bit optimistic but a 76 mm should be good to over 1000 hp. 8psi should be good for like 600 650 with non ported heads. Ported heads would be worth some more.
