My 73 the nuts on the engine bay side didnt all come off. So I had to chnge it with the heater box installed. Far right side will have a couple screws that can only be removed if the box is. I broke it off. Didnt cause any real damage and went back together just fine.



Ah. My 72 I was able to swap cores with it installed. Took every little screw out. I don't remember having to break any screws though Also replaced the foam while I was at it



I did mine that way too with my 79 and I had no problem getting all the screws out without breaking anything.
My new heater core was almost the size of the plate too and a couple of the screw holes didn't line up so I had to cut them a bit.
