I have driven my Trans Am with a manual valve body for over 25 years. On a car that is not an everyday driver it is not that big of a deal. I found it to be extremely fun and often folks thought I had a stick. I will have several cars set up this way when I get done but my only suggestion is if you have more than one car setup manually, use the same shifter in all the cars.
