There was a c-clip change around '85. That will be your determining factor on what suregrip units will work and what wont.

I asked this question to Dr Diff (Cass) and here was his response:

I don't know the dimensions, but in 1985, the thickness of the C-clips and the depth of the groove in the axles increased. I would stick the axles and C-clips into the carrier and check the fit.




So assuming your '85 has the newer parts, I believe '85-up should fit.

Spline count was unchanged as far as I remember on all 9 1/4's.
