I made the slots a little under 1/2 the original length, then by trial and error, rat-tail filed them out to the proper length. I think I had to partially disassemble the distributor 3 times to get it right - no biggie. It goes really fast after you get the hang of it.
Unlike Rapid Robert, the JB Weld in my distributor is holding up fine. Thanks, Robert, for giving me something else to worry about! THAT'S what I needed!
