A good quality 5/16 .080+ wall pushrod will easily handle 450 lbs open pressure and deflection isn't a problem. If it makes you feel better you can buy them with a thicker wall also. I don't see any reason to make it a bigger project than it should be for a flat tappet or hydraulic roller application. For a aggressive solid roller i'd step up to 3/8 pushrods though.
