Have you checked the roller on the valve? With both my 1.5 and 1.6 rockers I had to get longer pushrods and shim up the shaft to get the proper geometry. If the roller does not stay in the center of the valve stem the geometry is off. The smallest problem will be the guides wearing very quickly. I used 5/16 .085 wall from Smiths. .595 lift 265@ .050 cam.
