Here's all you need to know:

The only difference between the 69/early and the 70/ late is that the field is not grounded to the alternator, but instead is brought out to two terminals.

You can use a LATE (2 field terminals) on EITHER a late or early regulator, just ground one field terminal

If you are using the 70/late regulator, hook as the diagram I posted.

Hook the 12V source listed in the diagram to your old regulator ignition connection. If this connection has two wires, then one branches off to feed the coil ballast, IE this lead comes from the key and is an "ign 1" 12V source
