so I though I had all this sorted out but apparently not. I went to install the original damper I'd shown in the other post & realized the difference between the two is the length of the snout that goes over the crank...

so what gives? Is this off a 340 or something else, this is the one original to the motor (2.5" one) , not saying its the correct one just that it came off this 383. It matches up to the pulley & it s the offset holes whereas the short snout one has the symmetrical holes & doesn't match the old pulley but it of course goes flush with the timing cover which this one wont.

Would a different engine - 318, 340, etc...used this damper along with the shield I also wondered about?



At any rate I think the simple solution is to use the new damper & either oval a few of the bolt holes on the pulley or get a different pulley.

Are 400 pulley's different than 383 / 440 pulleys?
