That being said, and it's been a few years, it should have a ball under the rod in the cluster passageway. I accidentally dropped that ball into my intake when I was troubleshooting a pump shot issue. Eventually, the 318 coughed it out but I wasn't gonna tear the engine down for it. IOW, I distinctly remember that ball.

I just took mine apart on Saturday to clean it and adjust the floats. The checkball is under the rod.
