My understanding is a fusible link is 4 gauge smaller than the wire it is used to protect. It has a different rubber coating and softer wire that is designed to burn out before the main wire. Napa sells them in various gauges for a couple $$$. Like said previous, if yours was replaced, there was a short somewhere and may still exist.
