is there an rpm spread that is ideal?

Probally but every motor and converter may not be the same, my T/A 8 inch drops down to 5700 RPM if I shift it at 6000 up to 7000 RPM, if I shift it above 7000 RPM if will drop down to 5800, to 6000 RPM depending on from first or second. I run the Mopar brand 2.77 low 1st gear set so the RPM drop is more than with a stock standard 2.45 low gear set I have always operated on the theory that you have to go to the tarck and find out where to shift each combination by testing it IHTHs
