First thought is to buy a Mopar (Durango), but I am not sure they've kept up in the technology, styling, and value departments.

Any thoughts on what would be a good purchase?

Here's the USnews ratings:

We picked a Hemi Durango primarily for it's 7,400 lb. tow rating. We're quite pleased with ours. Distant runner ups were Explorer and Pilot. If money were no object, probably would have gotten a Yukon XL, but alas, it was. We have a friend with a '17 Tahoe, GM's quality seems scary these days, big negative for us.

Alex on autos is my favorite youtube car reviewer. Check out his most recent Durango vid below.

I wouldn't buy anything right now. "back in the day" you could pick up ex-airport rental Durangos, 1 year old under full warranty for just over half MSRP - doubt you can do that anymore

What's your plan of use? If you're planing to tow (heavy) then a Hemi Durango is a great choice IMO. If you just want a go anywhere at any time or weather and maybe some light towing (small boat, couple of motorcycles, small camper etc.,) then a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V6 (Hemi will get you I think 6200 towing??) IMO is a good choice. Now the Jeep Grand Cherokee "L" has 3-row seating up Anything else is non-Mopar and that's a down for me.

(Oh and the GC has pretty much all of the latest bells and whistles of anything out there.......but you pay for it too......me I wouldn't go for anything less than a Limited but my choice would be the Overland up up )

When I was looking at GC's last year I found the best value was the Altitude. The trinkets added to the limited didn't match the price increase seeing as the altitude already had alloy wheels, leather, the big screen, 4x4 etc

And the new one

I've been shopping, as well. I started with a wide search and it came down to the best value being the Durango. Also has the highest towing capacity (IF you get the tow package) with the V6 (6,200 lbs). More with the V8, but the mileage suffers. By the time you get a GC L with what I want it raises the price too much.

What I want will likely have to be ordered (SXT plus, 2wd, tow package, and heated seats). Sticker on that is a shade north of $39k. Might be ready to buy at the end of the year and hoping for some leftover 2021s. We got a smokin' deal last August on a brand new 2020 Elantra ECO (NOT a hybrid). Almost 25% off sticker...
