6.1 engine at junk yard - 06/28/23 11:58 PM

I’ve been looking at this engine on the floor in their building for over 4 years, not sold yet (big price imo) my question, it has quite a few upgrades, MSD coils, headers and not sure what else. It has no controller box but all componites. What issues will i see besides finding a box to run this engine before offering a low ball price to move it. They want $5500 plus a core! I’ll offer $2000 out the door no core, too low?

I think if you find out everything about the engine- was it rebuilt, what's the specs, where's the proof- offer them $4k if it seems right. If its a rebuild by pros with a forged bottom and more of the good bits, you know the deal.

Aren't the crate motors $8-9k for a 392?
I wouldn't pay more than 1/2 of that cost.

The salvage yards price these things way too high. You can buy a brand new 5.7 at Bouchillon for $6000.

If you go crate engine, Scroggins is hard to beat.
Even with shipping, I got my 5.7 for $1k less than dealer 5 miles away from my house.

$5200 for a 5.7, and probably add another $500 for shipping. They didn't charge tax either.
