‘68 dart hellcat swap! Help!!! - 04/04/23 06:18 PM

I am going to be helping a friend of mine swap a hellcat engine and trans into a 68 dart. He has not purchased the engine or trans yet. He wants to do a Redeye and is serious about doing the swap..
what does it take to do this swap? He also plans to do an altercation front or similar. I know a swap like this isn’t for the faint of heart or inexperienced. I really don’t believe it’s anything he and I can’t tackle. I realize it’ll take modifying trans tunnel, tti headers? What’s best for engine mounts? Engine management system? I’m starting from scratch here. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Purchase engine & factory controller from MMX.....Purchase RMS tubular front end with G3 mounts, build a stout 727 and an ATI Convertor...And install.

MMX will also have the coolant kit for the blower...

If you're using the 8 speed you'll need a controller, a German company makes one, forget the name off hand. There may be others out with them by now as well

Here's a drag week elcamino with one and they have it set up pretty slick, def using every advantage they have

Here's another new controller

If anyone is unaware with the terminology, the ZF45 is used in 6 cyl (and the Chrysler one is made by Chrysler under license). ZF70 is 5.7 and 6.4, ZF90 is hellcat and are legit ZF units.

If we decide on a standard hellcat engine, is there a preference for the donor engine? Rather it comes out of a car, truck?
Will the accessory drives all work? Aftermarket gas pedal? Will try factory manifolds fit with the alterkation front? What oil pan is necessary? I am just getting started on my research.

You will want one from a car because the jeep and truck unit will have the all wheel drive transfer case. If you are shopping just the engine than I am sure it doesn't matter. For exhaust your best bet is to use something from TTI, I am not sure any of the factory manifolds that flow decent will work.

I have to Mopar crate controller kit in mine. It is plug and play. The controller kits are hard to come by and are on backorder a lot. Places like MMX are jacking them up almost 2k over cost, because they know they are hard o get. They lost any future business from me. Russell Drake from Sound German Enginering gets them in time to time and seems like a great guy to deal with. If you do an 8 speed, he can hook you up to get that working. At the end of the day, its like any other swap. Hardest part I found was where and how to mount all the coolers, pump and lines for the SC.

The TRX's have a different front drive setup, you'll want to study both to see what works for you - with a tube K I'm guessing either works. If I was doing a non oem K I would definitely do one that let me use the oem oil pan. That's ~$500 you don't need to spend if you're already bucks out on the K. Truck manifolds are just straight back logs pretty much like the 5.7 truck manifolds. I would think they fit and still make 710hp. Car ones might fit with rack and pinion.
