rebuilding 06 5.7 - 03/19/23 03:25 PM

i have a 06 300. its a 5.7 heritage so a bit better than just a stock "C" i would like to keep the car so thinking of rebuilding and adding some useable power.
thinking maybe a 392 stroker.
question. i have access to a 16 5.7 truck engine that is super low mile (10k-ish) would that be a better start? i would think tone ring is an issue but anything else?. (buy the 32 tone ring crank?) is that a good swap or stick with the earlier engine? nothing stupid for power 475-ish

I think you would need to change front cover assembly due to hood clearance and the intake.

thanks for the reply. i would hopefully use all my 06 car front drive stuff and a eagle intake if everything works together.

Excellent question.
I have a high mile 2007 Ram 1500 and I've considered a later model take out engine. I'd expect to just use the long block and retain everything that is specific to my model year like the intake and throttle body, exhaust manifolds, maybe the front accessory drive and such. I just don't know if my intake matches up with the ports of the newer heads.

Wouldn't it be easier to just drop a used 6.4 in? Ask Dave

Front cover from your 06 will not work on later model as it does not have the clearance for the cam sprocket and yours has an EGR valve and later model does not have head drilled for bolt on EGR as well as your intake will not bolt to it due to different intake ports. There may be an eagle intake available ow that has ability to run an EGR tube into it and you can drill head for EGR so it may be doable I’m just unsure about intake

I'm stacking parts now for something similar on my 2007 Charger. I have a set of Eagles with new springs, valves, guides and valve job ready to go. Also have SRT shorties and cat delete pipes. Picked up the cam yesterday. Still need lifters, Cometic head gaskets, timing chain, oil pump and measure for pushrods when the new heads go on. I also have a 392 manifold that I may use. I am using a Diablo tuner. Already have the rear cats and EGR deleted.
