392 thermostat - 11/09/21 12:46 PM

Hey guys how cold from stock can I go on my 19 Scat without lighting off the CEL? I've put a few 190* in the 5.7 Pursuits I've been reconditioning & selling with no problems. Thanks in advance for the help. Been 10 years since I've had the time to be on the board.

Also what cams exist for the 5.7 & 392 can I use beyond stock & remain emissions legal. I emailed Comp cams weeks ago but no answer.

I am running a 185* degree in mine. not sure I would go less than that as the PCM is programmed to run and change parameters/Auto adjust at 200* operating temp. but so far 185* has been good

Just food for thought: I was on a modern charger forum where a member was performing the benefits/draw backs of certain "bolt ons", a 180 t-stat was one of the pieces. He said while it did let the car remain at a cooler IDLE temp, it really did not change the driving temps( I can verify this, I also installed one with the same results bought on sale from MMX) the said test car actually was slower after the install.

He provided a handful of track timeslips to back up his claims.

I put a 180 in my 2020 TA 392 it runs cooler, stock it ran 210, now it runs 185-195, the oil temp went from 228 down to 219ish, this is driving not sitting, the transmission shifts much better running cooler ?? as far as performance I dont know. this is summer time driving in Southeast Texas.

Ok thanks guys, I'm going to go with a 190. Car is in NC & just a toy just want it to run a little cooler. Using 90 octane with no alcohol & 1/2 gallon of toluene to every 5 gallons of gas. Huge seat of pants difference!

Can anyone shed light on cams?
