Engine Masters GIII 5.7 Hemi

Engine Masters GIII 5.7 Hemi - 11/14/20 04:55 PM

The latest Engine Masters show features a 5.7 GIII Hemi.

They did a cam swap but talk a lot about the engine and a new Holley controller that will be available for it.

I found it very interesting.

Was going to make a post about the same thing (the show engine masters on the motor trend network you pay for). The dual runner intake test was awesome, also the dyno sheet showing when it switches from long runner to short, and when they ran it on the dyno in short and long only modes. Pretty damn cool! Also it was an eagle, not the old 03-08 version generally used in tests which most aren't interested in.

great episode and I would think makes it clear that for a street NA hotrod you want that truck manifold and the controller - I have read that elsewhere. Best low end tq manifold.

Major points are...
More & more kool aftermarket stuff is available for the Gen III and since the 5.7 was used for many years in Ram trucks they are available for not too much $$ from the salvage yards..

Just my $0.02... wink

That was a great episode. My wifes 18 Durango RT has a weird flat spot in it when rolling into the throttle, I assume that flat spot is the runner change. Its also there if you just floor but way less. But if you roll into the throttle just fast enough that it holds the gear it is very noticeable. I assume it is the runner, there is so much torque management, timing, retard, drive by wire stuff going on its hard to tell but that runner change makes sense.

One of the things that got my attention was the Holley ECU that would also control transmissions.

I don't know if it is available yet.

It is available but I don't think it controls the transmissions that everyone wants it to. I think it only controls the 545RFE or something, not the NAG1 or 8 speed.

It might eventually make it to youtube but it is on the subscription based Motor Tend on Demand right now.

Lots of people don't like the idea of the subscription based deal but in the case of Motor Trend on Demand, worth every single penny. You have access to hundreds of shows and they are all car based programming.

If you wait long enough, it will eventually be on the Motor Trend channel you get with basic cable.

Richard Holdener did a dyno pull video with the dual flow intake. On youtube, I watched it last week.
