lifters trashed - 10/25/20 08:28 PM

Since the car is down due to snow. Is there a manufacturer that makes lifters what actually can sustain 435lbs of open spring pressure without sounding like a sewing machine? Used the "hellcat" lifters and ran the stock .040 preload and the current push rods have .085 preload and they both sound the same. some lose their pump up and some actually are quite with the scope on them. Or go the route of shimming lifters and getting adjustable rockers or even push rods to avoid the hydraulic lifter problems.

I have a 6.4 SRT 8 in my 2011 ram and the lifters (new mopar ones for a 2011 5.7 I bought years ago) sounded horrible, almost like a rod was about to come out the side some time and others they would be pretty quiet, I was about to yank it all back down and try some "hellcat" lifters (they are all the same ones now) and the guy at the dodge dealer suggested to drain it and run 5w40 mobile 1 synthetic (I had tried a bunch of other weights and brands) and by golly I have put another 20,000 miles on the truck since switching to that and never a tick out of any of them.

There are alot of people running the Comp 274 and bigger in the 5.7 and 6.4. The factory cars are not going solid roller, I don't think the knock sensors would like it. Maybe try another forum or contact a shop that specializes in the modern hemi.

My 5.7 in my ram is a bit tappy for a few seconds sometimes on start up. My 6.1 has never made a sound, I use 5w40 in it.

Ive tired the 5w40 oil and no luck at all with it. I've changed the oil more in this car within 200 miles then i have on my daily driver in a year.

I have thought about it but do i drop that much money and still take the chance? I dont see many people running them that makes me leary to drop 900 on a set of lifters.

The issue i have is the lifter bleeding down from the higher spring rates. The motor before i put the cam and everything is it was the quietest i have ever heard a stock hemi run.

Few other places i had asked they said its hit or miss with lifters with the cams and spring pressure they have with the lifters. I just dont want to dump money on something that isnt known to work then just make a money pit of it.

Hey, My first post in many years! and maybe my last.

I haven't used oil additives in decades but decided to give it a try again on my 2007 220,000 mile 5.7 Ram. I chose Rislone Hy-Per Lube because of price and they've been in business a long time. The truck had been sitting over-nite so it was cold out(Ohio) and was down about a quart. About 5 minutes later all the ticking was gone! So I'll be using Rislone for now.

I have 150K miles on my 09 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 and no litter issues at all...... nice and quiet......... I bought it new and got a predator tuner for it and disabled the MDS very early in its life...... Main reason was I put the SRT8 headers and exhaust mods on and it sounded like a sea lion in mating season when the MDS activated the V-four mode...... I don’t know if these problems are related but food for thought....... Do the manual trans cars Without MDS have lifters fail as well?....... TBF

Yes, they do. Lifters were revised for 2017 i think, but there are still some problems being aired out online( lifter fail/cam wipe), not as many as before.

MMX Extreme has a very informative lifter video on YouTube. Kinda long but a good visual.

My Ram is an 07 auto trans with the MDS disabled with a Diablo tuner. I started getting check engine light at 200,000 miles. That was 3 years ago and just started using the additive. Might even go 10W30 on the next oil change. My wife has 2004 2500 stick shift 5.7 Ram and it runs fine, no lifter clatter at all.
