Alternator Case Sizes - 06/14/20 03:59 PM

After getting incorrect information directly from Mopar Part Assistance, I figured I'd share that out of the 220, 180, and 160 MDS alternators the 160 is the only small case of the three. Part #04801866AC fit in my ebody without needing to modify anything. This may already be common knowledge but I figured it may be worth repeating.

I'll be hooking this to a pre-70 P3690732 regulator to regulate the 13.5v output.

i was surprised the alt fit in my 69 Coronet as well, 2005 300C engine, must have had the 160a as well.

When they switched to the MDS timing cover, the spacing on all the accessories changed. I learned this the hardway as my original alternator didn't line up with my water pump. The unit I'm using is for the later timing cover (totally flat where the WP mounts).

I'd have to check my notes for the year, but as soon as the timing cover became flat, and didn't have the water pump flow provision, the alignment changed. The case size, but pulley spacing, should follow this 160/180/220 size pattern all the same.

per my other thread I posted this morning - you're saying MDS vs non-MDS means different timing covers? What about VVT?
