Tone ring explanation - 01/30/20 02:38 AM

What is the computer looking for on the tone ring to determine TDC? What would happen if you setup the cam timing 180 degrees out meaning the piston is on TDC but the tone ring is at BDC? What area or tooth indicates TDC on the tone ring?

My guess would be yes. The relutor wheel, tone ring is looking for the TDC.

I have Sheppard's latest hemi book at work and i keep forgetting to look this up. Fairly sure it's looking for the long duration tooth, or the long duration gap, for TDC. Since the tone ring only can go on one way, as long as the cam and crank dots line up, you won't be 180* out.

Hopefully someone with more experience than I can chime in.
