The 392 BGE truck block IS a Hellcat block, or vice versa, except for color. The 392 SRT block is a pretty good block, but I don't know that I'd build it to 1,000 hp while knowing there's a stronger block available. FCA has never really said how much stronger the BGE block is, they've just provided bits of information for mag and tech articles, stating it's been strengthened here and there.

I have a brand new Hellcat block (the orange one) I'm probably going to sell. I bought it to build, but then bought a Hellcrate engine when they came out. Really don't have use for the bare block now.

After 2016 they are the same block,(different colors) the 6.4 blocks have a thinner cylinder casting and they don't have the ribs joining the bottom of the cylinders together in the water jacket.

I don't know about the 6.4 blocks but I've seen BGEs go well in to the high 1400hp. My Hennessy Demon is just over 1100 at the wheels and has about 6500 mile on the build.

One BIG difference between the Hellcat and BGE block is the water jackets. The BGE water jackets are about 11/2" shorter. There is alot of solid cast iron in the bottom end of that block. Add billet main caps and it will take alot.

Wondering, have you personally seen and compared the difference between the black BGE block (truck 6.4) and the orange BGE block (Hellcat) ? I keep reading everywhere that they both have the shorter water jackets. If you have a black BGE block, I have an orange one. Maybe we can compare some measurements...

I was under the impression that any block with the BGE cast into it was the same. So there are different water jackets in BGE blocks?

No ,..... the 6.4(11-17) is different from the BGE(14+) see the bumped BGE thread

I agree with you. The statement though made it sound like the Hellcat and the BGE were different blocks. My Hellcat block has BGE cast right into it.

I had an orange Bge block here for a build and the water jackets were considerably shorter. Didn't take exact measurements. I remember reading when the Hellcat engine first came out that the water jackets were LONGER in the block to help cooling because of the boost.

Just checked the BGE block I have on my shop floor right now is 1.5 inches less water jacket depth than an early or late 5.7 blocks I also have sitting here. Also the bores are siamesed about 1/2 the distance up VS the 5.7 bores not touching each other the entire length of those longer water jackets.

BGE is for big gas engine, they did not just say 6.4 as it would be inacurate when used as a hellcat and visa versa so they just called it BGE. They could have done like chevy did with the 4.8 and 5.3 ID on all 4.8 and 5.3 blocks. The only confusing thing for me is what I am going to build this BGE thing for, kinda hoping to find me a nice 09+ 4 door 4x4 1500 truck.

same with the 6.1s and the 5037471BF 6.4 block the cylinders don't touch at the bottom,
