Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 08/19/1902:57 AM
so at this point I decided I was going to jump into the gen 3 stuff and not build the 340 I had. did what I thought was a lot of research but learned you can read all you want but doing is a different story. so I started looking for auction donor cars and came across a srt8 charger.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 08/19/1903:02 AM
make a dumb decision and take the chance and buy the car thinking the motor would be fine and hopes crushed. insurance job I should've sniffed out. you live and you learn
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 08/19/1903:13 AM
so i recoup all my money selling parts from the charger and make a little on top (still didn't make me feel any better lol) and start plotting my next move. also this is the first engine I tore down so that was good for the learning process. ok so in the mean time of figuring out whats next for me I start my search for an 8.8 rear at the junkyards. then pops says he wants a dana and would make me a deal on his 8 3/4 with the offset shackle set. DONE.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 08/20/1904:03 AM
next I find out since I'm using a slant 6 k member the only mounts besides customs I can use are the schumachers. order those and start mock up. gen 3 w/ 727.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/07/1905:22 PM
Are you putting oil lines in that pan for the turbos? Interested to see how you do it, because I might be doing the same thing at some point. Great build and thanks for posting your progress.

I used the dipstick hole on the pan for my return. its 10an I believe and used a truck dipstick on the drivers side of the engine.

Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/13/1907:48 PM
playing with some bends on the hot side. with a truck front cover and a car intake the alternator location needs to be manipulated. also look where I shaved/ground down the front cover under the throttle body to use a car intake.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/13/1908:13 PM
next I was in the market for a cable driven throttle body. bbk were kinda pricey and efisource was just releasing adapters to use a ls throttle body. I know I know. heres link for adapter https://www.efisource.com/wp/shop/gen-3-hemi-throttle-body-adapter/ and the throttle body is from warr performance. tb is 92mm and I believe the intake open is only 90mm or so. needs to be bored

Hey now NOTHING wrong with using the LS TB.....what the engine doesn't know won't hurt it.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/14/1905:06 PM
I use a Ford 5.0 style BBK TB on my turbo 383. It has never once complained to me about the OEM origin, it's sucked up every bit of air that's gone through it.
The alt is going up above the turbo? Is there not room to put it over on the driver's side somewhere and still run a belt the right way for the waterpump?

That's what I was wondering...but with the truck cover it might not be doable, the Auto(LX/Jeep) cover you can mount the alt over where the Air Compressor would go.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/16/1904:04 PM
but on trucks it sits up there where the a/c sits on LA engine, right? He might need to use the little denso unit instead of the one native to the car.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/17/1906:28 AM
I hear that. my pockets would've known the difference thats fissure lol

what I was going to do but my /6 k member and Schumacher mount set up don't allow much room.

Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 10/17/1906:44 AM
44mm wastegate vs 60mm. the 60 I ordered when I ordered the turbo but its massive in an already crammed bay. going to try a single 44 then add another later if creep is a problem

so I was getting impatient trying to learn to weld and fab up the exhaust and turned it over to my chassis man rj Simrock. he was going to put the cage in the car for me in the first place so just added hot and cold side to the laundry list lol
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1902:11 AM
I wanted the bench seat really bad but being 6'3 I wasn't comfortable as I should've been and being realistic a bucket is safer. went with these. hope it didn't kill the sleeper look too much
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1902:31 AM
fuel system. stock 17 gallon tank. 1/2 sending unit. mallory ow pressure pump pulling from stock sending unit feeding surge tank. efi (high psi pump) deastwerks, pulling from surge tank feeding rails. excess pressure returned to surge tank first, then to stock tank.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1902:34 AM
the 6.1 intake is super close to the firewall. this worked like a charm for vacuum. 3 bar Mopar map you can't get any input values for. thats another story....
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1911:29 AM
Looking really good!
Do you have any experience with the EFI stuff? I don't have a gold box but I have an MS3X system and they work really well, lots to learn, but it works good and it has been super reliable.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1902:49 PM
Awesome progress! Looked like you had the wastegate plumbing wrong though tying back into the downpipe before the wastegate rather than the exit of the gate?

Love the attention to detail, and the walk through on progress,......so who has the over under on how long the 8 3/4 last ?
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/14/1903:42 PM
Not at all haha. Yes I like the mega squirt and tuner studio. Like you said lots to learn but I’m getting more and more comfortable with the interface.

Until he get gets a converter/boost set up that hits the tire hard, then........Have fun with it , but don't get greedy

Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/15/1901:48 PM
I wouldn't worry so much about the rear end until you start trying to launch hard. Launching soft and bringing the power on down track to learn the tuning should be easy enough on the 8 3/4. I'm still at a 'low' power level but the 8 3/4 in my 70 Fury has been fine with a 12psi 383.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/15/1909:57 PM
yeah ill have to see how it works out. are you turbo or pro charged? whats your combo and how does it run?

Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/15/1911:06 PM
first pass Friday: I pull into the water box. get tires spinning and as I pull out the car shuts off. I had no clue what happened but thought I blew a coupler off. idk why. but had them push me back. popped hood. everything looked fine. fired right up and drove it back tot he pit to diagnose. bummer cause you only get two passes a day. I just wasted one. 2nd pass. drive around water box figuring im gonna just ease it down to get some actual data beside my street driving. walk into he throttle and before the 60 car goes limp. 2nd pass. a bust. at this point I realize my tune is way off. tuning with no ice in the tank makes a big diff in required fuel. lesson learned. I throw ice in the tank and drive it to the airbnb for the night. on the highway I datalog and jump on it a couple times and adjust the fueling hoping for better results Saturday.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/15/1911:11 PM
Saturday. first pass. I do a burnout and the ca his still running! cool. lol. roll into the throttle hit every gear and it feels good. first pass in the books! its only up from here. 14.13 ! Ive got a 14 second street car ! never thought id be so excited to run a 14. all the hard work made it down the track!
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/15/1911:27 PM
guess I should mention pump 91oct. 3.23 gears. and making 6-7lbs. 255 radials. shifted it at like 5500. engine never made it past 6k. timing very conservative.

second pass Saturday. I was feeling more confident in the car but still didn't want to break the puny driveshaft or the gears so I planned to roll into it again but a lot sooner than the first pass lol. well the duster I ran mad that easy. he jumped out on me and my foot got heavy real quick. ca ran decent. more data. 12 second street car! same timing same boost.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 12/18/1905:02 AM
Sunday eliminations day. I dial a 12.25. racing a beautiful barracuda. man that thing was sweet. drill the tree but car runs way off the dial but she had issues I believe. 12.54 on a 12.25. ill take it. on to round 2
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 01/21/2004:56 PM
https://youtu.be/m_8ZQwaizP8 New personal best. Same boost since the first time out. 6lbs. After reviewing logs I’m not even leaving in boost. Next time I make it to the track I think I’m going to leave the tune up the same and focus on cutting down the 60. I’m sure theirs some et to be found in doing so. Anyways. Hope you all enjoy!
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 02/04/2010:21 PM
you'd be my best friend if you taped your hotside for a pressure gauge to test backpressure. You can use an oil psi gauge and a copper line, I did that with my Fury when I upgraded turbos to see before and after results.
I have the 5.7 sitting in my Coronet now and the dump truck 76mm T6 I have is big in there, not to mention its 5" exit.
Re: moparan619's Turbo Gen 3 Valiant - 03/20/2010:23 PM
im def game for that. so much to get done on the car. but ill def post results when i get to it!
