Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/11/19 04:31 PM

Anybody done one and got a vid with a 727 behind it? Did it meet your performance goals?

I have been wondering if I should go this route....And after this weeks G2 Hemi issue, I would rather do it before another part failure...

I knew someone would post that...I am looking for some actual feedback....The engines are under $15k, and I never see any in pro-street cars, only resto mods with a stick....

The motor doesn't care what's behind it. You can use a 727 behind it. Just use a manual trans PCM for the motor, as they don't look for feedback from the trans.

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/12/19 10:59 AM

Like Steff said its not going to care what car it is in or if the rear tires are big or not. I would think the only challenge would be getting the converter right to handle all the instant torque.

I am looking for ET's on a pro-street application or drag race application....Doesn't look like anyone has done one except Gas Monkey Garage....And for the price of one, I am surprised. When you look at all the builds on here, many approach or exceed what one of these costs....

I am at a cross roads with my G2 and my thinking is these are not getting any more affordable, maybe its time to switch as I got real lucky this week when a part in the valve train failed...

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/12/19 05:48 PM

I've been researching same questions. I'm really wanting to run the stock hellcat auto.
Might as well get low mileage engine and trans combo and know its converter is set up correctly.
Figuring the swap will be around 6-8k over the engine trans price and some fab work.
Assuming new
Fuel system,
Headers
Oil pan
Wiring&ecm
Engine Mounts
Exhaust
Radiator
Coolers

What about building a stroked 5.7 and adding a Whipple?
A Whipple is around $6-7k. Could you build a decent stroker long block for around $8k ?
Here is the best deal I found for a Hellcat crate

That's exactly what I have been looking at. I talked with Byron, I think his name was about it. They mainly install them in resto mods...No drag race based cars. Seems like the are a bit over 700hp in stock form.

I have also talked to Rich at FastManefi about it....

The biggest problem I have is mounting it in my pro street car...

Also looking for real world swap details. How much fab do you need to do to fit one in a 70 e body? Best trans to use? Ets in an old muscle car? Thanks

From the pics I have collected, they look small in the engine bay. B & E body's have the same engine bay essentially and a G3 looks tiny in there....

My transmission plan is currently to run my billet drum 727 and my convertor from the 605 Hemi......If I can get the Hellcrate up 100hp, they will be in the same ballpark. But I did see an entire Hellcat drive train with the 8 speed trans and full wiring harness for sale on Racing Junk...I really never looked into the Nag 8 speeds to see of they fit. I would have to change gears in the Dana if I went that route...

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/15/19 03:50 PM

A gen III is wider dimensionally than a 440.

A hellcat will fit into an e-body with no modifications.

A hellcat will fit into a b-body with either shorter adapters to the supercharger water manifold, or by modifying the firewall for clearance.

Either a nag-1 or the 8hp series transmissions will require tunnel mods as they are physically larger than a 727 or 833.

Both of those transmissions require controllers as they are out of newer vehicles.

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/15/19 04:29 PM

Well, unless its bigger than this engine....it will fit in my E-body....My biggest issue is the motor mounts I need to run a motor plate, and to date, nobody has done one for a Hellcrate. The AEI one is for the other NA applications. For the efi I was thinking the Holley Dominator system....

Negative on the use of your 727. G3 hemis are a small block bell housing bolt pattern.

750 hp (about what it would put out in gross terms with a good tune) and 3800 lbs (guessing the weight) should get you high 9's-10.0's
Posted By: Dragula

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/17/19 02:12 PM

That is where my car shines....If the Hellcrate weighs less than or equal to an Iron block 605 Hemi, I will be under 3300lbs.....My car loved the all aluminum Hemi weight wise until a rod left out the side. I figure the 605 is right around 650-680lbs.....

According to MMX the Hellcrate is 800lbs which is a lot more than I would like if that is correct. The big aluminum Hemi was under 500lbs wet, but when you look at the Hellcrate, its probably about right...with all that stuff on it......

If that is the correct weight, my car will be 3300lbs and then add me in for 3530 or so total....

The Wallace says 9.97 at 135.49 and that would be very acceptable....I can work on it from there...

Thanks

I have one in my 64 Dodge 440.
I did use a gerst front suspension. It is a 727 built by John cope. Car went 10.00 with lower only, but it was making just a touch over 11lbs (about factory boost) with the longtubes and free exhaust. With an upper, it has been 9.32 so far. 8's are coming.

Mike,

If you could e-mail a picture or two of how it integrates with the timing cover and accessories, and a price...I might take one...That has been the main reason I have not done one yet.

Don't get me wrong, I love the big Hemi, Its puts all your senses to the test just idling by, but reliability has not been its strong suit. I would love to have somthing I could do Drag Week with running mid 9's....

I am running the Mopar crate kit. So factory PCM that is unlocked and I tune it with HP Tuners. When I had the front end built by Gerst, I had him put 3rd gen mounts on it and he supplied those with kit. Lined up 100% perfect.

Its been a while since I put pics on this site. Can I just add them? or do I have to host them somewhere?

If you want to use a motorplate we do have them ready to go with tensioners and idlers mounts. This can be utilized with 5.7, 6.1, 6.4, and we also have one for hellcat and demon, yes they are different.

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/19/19 05:57 PM

Mike,

That looks like it would work for me. I typically run the 1-wire chevy 100amp setup on my plate....But my 35gph water pump this year has not been enough on the hot days in traffic thanks to my iron Siamese block.

What alternator are you running with that setup...Looks like you have it on the drivers side.Do you use a serp on the Alternator of V-belt? Is the elcetric water pump enough to cool it on the street? My goal would be Drag Week 2020...

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/19/19 06:34 PM

The alternator was spec'd by Jeff Sandlin, I can get you specs if necessary. It runs off the factory hellcat/demon accessory pulley using a serpentine belt. This is also hopefully a drag week build. Not sure if it will be enough to cool it or not. Will find out in a month.

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/19/19 06:59 PM

Really awesome...Strut front end....Nice!

The 100-140A work best for me on the street. I can't get away with a 60A anymore. Where did the hook up wire on the alternator end up? Mines on the back, so any position its in works.....Some are on the sides and end up in a bad spot.

If that is a Chevy water pump Meizere makes a billet mechanical version, although I bet the studs only go as deep as the plate and that would probably be a bad idea...

Real easy to swap all the parts into a SB 727 case anyhow

Re: Who has done a Pro-Street Hellcat Crate deal? - 07/19/19 09:03 PM

Literally, you can leave the trans in the car with the engine out, pull the convertor, swap the bell, re-install the convertor and switch engines....Ended up pulling the Hemi one year, and dropping a W2 motor in I had ready to go....Works like a charm and well worth the cost.

Can you send me a rough cost for a plate for a Hellcat? dragula426@gmail.com is my e-mail. Include whatever pulleys and idlers are required and any new pics as yours gets closer. My other option is to switch out my Magnum Force front end for their newer one with the mounts on it.

I have not gotten any solid hits on my big 605 Hemi for sale, so I replaced the valve springs on it and ported the intake a bit further and its going back in the car next week, but I want to switch to Hellkitty power down the road. At a minimum, I want to buy one of those crate motors this winter and hide it away until this big Hemi sells or it lets go.....Or maybe they start making blocks again.

Sorry, been super busy wiring, running the fuel system, etc. Hoping to fire this thing up in a week or so. I have to pull the radiator and front support, I need to change the lower water pump fitting , so I will take some pics of the front when I remove that. John Ketron had no issues putting a hellcat in a Cuda. To my knowledge only A and B bodies need the low profile water manifolds. With the water manifolds we designed there is no need to cut any firewall.

Got these sent to me today.....Looks awesome. The only things I would be worried about going this route:

1 Is the water pump enough to keep it cool in 100 degree heat.....
2. Can there be any less pulleys or idlers used to keep it simpler?

I can't answer your question on the water pump, it is the high flow pump so I hope it will keep cool. But the pulleys are required. You need at least 180° wrap on the super charger and 180° wrap on the balancer. Factory hellcat, demon, and Hellephant all use this number of pulleys.

I figured it is the way it has to be, but I kinda always question everything.....Not trying to be negative. Have you done anything else to the engine like cam or injectors? Looks like you went for the ATI damper for +10%....

Do you know what it ended up weighing?

I figure my car is currently good for 9.60's, but I have to upgrade the roll bar to a cage...

This is actually a 6.1, Molnar crank and rods, custom Wiseco pistons, Hellephant cam, 1600cc injectors, 96mm direct fit cable driven TB,10% lower, 2.75 upper, running on corn. No idea what it weighs. It should outrun my cage that's all I want.
