2016 5.7 core.

2016 5.7 core. - 05/27/19 05:46 PM

So i picked up a complete 5.7 out of a 2016 challenger.
Hydro locked and snapped a rod. Didn't touch the head or cylinder wall.
This thing is new inside i would guess less than 10k on engine.
Questions
I am replacing the rod with and earlier 5.7 rod. Are they the same weight?
I'm pressure testing the head and block. Don't know why it hydro locked. Possible bad gasket from factory?
What else should i look for?
Thx Matt

have a machine shop weigh another rod in the block compared to the replacement--also would have them check the crank--it could have a bend that you cant see by eye...

Why not just buy the correct rod and piston

Have a used rod that is free and the piston wasn't damaged.
But it not to say that i may have to go that route if i find more damage.

even if you buy a new rod and piston the machine shop will have to weigh them to be sure it matches....then make the replacement match the original...

Looks like a stain. No telling from here though.
Might want to mag it to be sure and run a hone through it.

I think your correct. But im going low budget on this thing. After I pressure test the block and heads.
Who has an 09 and up 5.7 rod they want to get rid of?

Have all the rods checked. I am doing a hydro locked engine right now. It had one broke rod and two that you could see were bent. When I measured the rest I found two more bent.

I buy them out the junkyards here for 500 or so. Bought a 6.1 with spun rod bearing on ebay for 600, set up freight which was 85 bucks... just got to shop around.

Time for a thicker piece of plexiglass.

Why don’t you get a nice cut to size piece of thick lexan. That’s what I do when I make head adaptors for my flowbench
