Fire Sale at Mancini's - 01/29/19 09:26 PM

You'll never buy a new Edelbrock dual quad intake for the GIII Hemi any lower than it is at Mancini.

Yea, but do they make any good HP?

Re: Fire Sale at Mancini's - 01/31/19 12:33 AM

they had it for less than that at a local swap meet, and no takers.

I would have bought it to throw on the shelf just because, but I already have one I ain't using. I sure as heck don't need two of them lol.

Well, Zippy, just poop all over the messenger. Feel better now?

I thought it was a righteous price, I don't have a dog in this hunt. Where I live, you can't find a GIII anything for less than $$$.

Sure Wasn't intended that way either, but people getting randomly upset about harmless comments (In my case, admitting to collecting/hoarding parts that aren't being used) is the price you pay for participating. Nature of the beast

I got one of the very first ones ever made, right after it's debut at SEMA. Then I went through gyrations to ship it across the country to Andy F. so he could make a linkage setup for this, since Edelbrock's linkage wasn't that great and I thought it was overpriced as well.

I tried my best to do my part for this tiny piece of the hobby, but it just never became very popular. Why they can't sell these even for 200 is a mystery.

At around the same time a whole lot of digging revealed a plastic prototype of the same basic runner design, but with a 1x4 top. I found out what happened with it. Edelbrock really should have made that one instead...choosing to make the dual quad version first was a big mistake.

DD I'm sorry if I said something hurtful, that was certainly never my intent, and I hope everyone reading this has a great day.

Zippy is right on, very few people want to screw with a 2x4. A single 4 would have sold very well and didn't even need to be a dual plane, a dual plane with those near verticle ports just makes a bad dog leg for no reason, just look at the lower 4 runners on the dual plane that is made by OCP or whatever their alpha numeric name is.

Well, Zipman, if no snark was intended, no snark taken. Sorry about the poopy reply.

I guess that when I look at Craigslist I see hardly any GIII motors of any stripe and those for sale are in four figure territory. The first couple of years there was the occasional builder with a bad crank or rod or something. Now everyone seems to think they're rare, made of gold. Frustrating.

You want to talk about hoarding parts, I have 65% of a 451 in boxes on my shelves only to have decided that a GIII Hemi would be better, save 200# off the front end, and look cooler. I could see running two fours for that price.

It's forgotten.

And yes, agreed...the core prices are not making a whole lot of sense these days.

Off topic but...

Where exactly are you getting the 200# weight loss from?

I think it was one of the guys on this site that said the best induction for power on a G3 N/A is a carburetor. As far as this particular intake I don't know. I guess you could run a couple throttle bodies on it as well as carbs.

The problem with the intake is it fits the original 5.7 port size. I have never had my hands on one so not sure it will fit the 6.1 and 09 later port size

I got one of these from Mancini,it has a Mopar Performance part number P5153556 and MOPAR lettering cast into the intake. Mopar instruction sheet as well.

In Richard Holdener’s “New Hemi “ book , he has a small write up about running the 4x2 Eddy manifold, with the Comp cams 273 it made more TQ and Power than the Mopar single plane under 6k rpms but the Mopar single plane did better over 6k, difference was somewhere in the 20 hp range, both fell short of the OEM EFI manifolds under 5.5k but made more top end power.
the Neighbor's 72 Cuda with a 383CI 5.7 went 10.70s with the Mopar manifold, 10.60s with the eddy 2x4 and 10.40s with the Cascar intake , Hughes pre Eagle heads , flow chart on the heads say 310@650 @ 28 depression, 2.10 Intake, 1.60 exhaust cam is a custom Comp Cams grind .590/600 255/260.

Thank You for the heads up! I don't need one currently, but my next project certainly does! so no hesitation at buying at $253, be a fool to pass it up at that price, hopefully Mancini dosen't bang me up to hard on shipping?
