Big gas bare heads? - 06/22/18 03:38 PM

Anyone know a pn or source for bare Big Gas heads?

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 06/22/18 07:21 PM

Chrysler usually sells most items as complete assemblies and I'm pretty sure that would be the case with the BGE heads. However, I've seen Dave Weber at MMX get stuff from Chrysler that dealers are not even able to get. He seems to have great "connections". You ought to check with him to see if he has them bare.

I'll try him. Thanks!

You could just buy the complete heads and sell the valves, springs, plugs, retainers, keepers and stuff easy enough, I doubt they are going to sell it much cheaper bare than assembled. I know I wouldn't mind finding a good deal on some of that stuff.

Some places are saying it's a regular 6.4 head.
I hope so cuz it's a good price.

Thanks for the info! There isn't a left and right pn?

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 06/24/18 09:00 PM

The BGE heads are not just regular, 6.4 / 392 Apache heads. They are a specific casting meant for the 392 truck engine and the Hellcat engine. I would imagine the valves and springs may be different, but I can't speak for that. One difference for sure is how they are drilled for intake manifolds. The truck version has the regular intake bolt pattern like all other G3s, whereas, the Hellcat version is drilled differently for the big IHI supercharger. As far as I'm concerned, the BGE complete truck heads would be a great head for any build where you plan to use a regular supercharger (not IHI). I believe a change to HP springs and retainers is all that would be needed to have a really nice head. With that said, and depending on your build intent, the Apache heads are killer too!

Plus the are cast with stronger material.

Cast from 356 t6. It's a turbo build, that's why I want them.

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 06/25/18 02:47 PM

Here's a FB video from 2015 with SRT rep reviewing Apache vs Hellcat head. You can notice the darker 356 material as well as the additional cast gussets on the deck surface for reinforcement and extra strength. I believe the BGE heads use the same casting as it would make sense for a commonality/production of heavy duty castings.

I would think there is , but I only ever order this 3 times, the 1st one I received didn't have exhaust bolts holes drilled and both ends of the head were not drilled for oil drain back, the 2nd 2 were drilled for drivers side exhaust and had drivers side drain back drilled in the rear of the head, also one of the pair had the last exhaust bolt hole broken in to the oil drain back. I used that for the passenger side, tapped and plugged the drain back that was now in the front.

I want to share this interview:
http://www.hotrod.com/articles/24-questions-with-chris-cowland/
The segment about heating/cooling torture caught my eye for some reason.
(sorry if it's a rehash)

I am wanting to switch my 99 Dakota to aluminum G3 NA power.

So this head is available.
Who has the part # for the other side.
Call me lazy, but i don't feel like drilling and taping.

The other casting # I have is (posted the wrong #) but it looks like it's the srt392 casting # I ordered

one today so when it shows up I'll post a picture.

Here's what arrived today. Bare castings, no machine work, seats or guides. Very disappointed. Hope they take them back! Not even Big Gas castings either.

Yikes, Some assembly required!

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/07/18 03:37 PM

Looks like how some of the W5 castings were sent out years ago.

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/07/18 07:55 PM

I still say buy a complete pair and sell the valves and stuff you dont need
Posted By: Silver70

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/07/18 09:57 PM

When I looked up that part # is shows as a raw casting... I can only imagine what it would cost to machine them.

I agree with hotroddave, then at least you know what your getting is machined already.

Do you know if these come with the valves?

The ones i linked from Eastcoastmoparts.com come complete with valves and springs ready to bolt on

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/09/18 08:41 AM

Thank you L4staero! Of the Apache style heads that are made with the higher grade aluminum, these BG heads appear to be a great deal. I figure, with the core charge included, that a pair would cost about $1972.00. The Edelbrock 3G Hemi Performer heads are about $2600.00 for the pair and the cheapest I found the Thitek heads were $2449.00 per head (A2Speed). If my numbers are way off please chime in. Thanks again!

Who did you get those from?

05045468AE is the BGE head I buy from my local dodge guy, on back order till 8/1 I just have one right now.
Like I said earlier I only ever ordered 392 head 3 times but I never got one as unfinished as that.
John every set of W5s and 8s I ever ordered came un-machine.

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/10/18 12:49 PM

I bought them from moparpartsinc.com. The part description was head casting. I didn't think it would be a raw casting. They are going back today. I tried the casting number off the big gas head you posted and it doesn't come up on any of the online parts sites.
Posted By: ric3xrt

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/10/18 03:11 PM

it won't you have to go to a dealer, every where I try online I get the same thing, either, "I'm sorry that number doesn't exist" or I don't show that as being valid.
my guy found it by dropping the 1st 0 and searching for 5045468AE.
been paying

I ordered my 5037369BD heads through Eastcoast, but like I said I never got a head that raw.
Summit also sells the 5037369BD under 05037369BD .

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/10/18 09:49 PM

Well I just went to my local dealer to check that casting number. Pretty much got the "nope doesn't cross, sorry k thanks bye" treatment.

Just how many head types are there? Is there overlapping PNs that have to be conteded with? I'm building a parts list to switch my Dakota from Magnum power.

I may be missing something here, but aren't the part numbers in the links provided above, by L4staero and A990, what you need?

yes if you want complete heads.

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/11/18 09:25 PM

Can I ask what's wrong with the complete head? are the valves not good for heavier springs?
Posted By: fbs63

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 07/12/18 03:29 AM

I wanted bare heads for a turbo build so I can use appropriate parts.

Weren't you doing a set of Thiteks?

Wanted to but can't swing it right now. The way this is going may end up with them anyway. Lol!

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 10/08/18 01:42 AM

Did you get these sent back? We have a new Haas VF4 CNC machine and although its going to take a bit before I'm good enough to do heads, I'm really interested in these. What did you pay for them and if you still have them what do you want for them?

Thanks

Re: Big gas bare heads? - 10/08/18 01:50 PM

Yes. Sent them back but had to pay restocking fee. IIRC they cost 3 something plus shipping.
