My new intake project

Looking the ever expand the gen3 Hemi market I have joined forces with a buddy of mine
We have decided to offer some new intakes for the Hemi market
Mainly fuel injected designs that utilize mostly stock mopar items like fuel rails injectors ect

Obviously this will be hand built and using billet flanges
And extruded seamless runners.

I'm shooting for a very very competitive price point once I can determine that these will be viable in both power and torque increases. And prove themselves at the track too

the Stock fuel rail part is important. the more parts out there for these engines the better.

Count me in, I will be needing an intake for my Gen3 Hemi swap sooner or later. Always like supporting vets too!

I know the guys testing the yet to be released Hemi version of it. So I'll know soon how it runs

Do you need one shorter that that?

Yes, I tried using a stock 5.7 intake. I saw Holley has a low profile Sniper for LS coming out so I thought I would ask.
It would be nice to run a flat hood.

Yes, it would not fit. I forgot by how much as it was a while ago when I first mocked everything up. I will get some measurements.

I am in the middle of design on a billet, low profile version that will use LS style throttle body. There will be two versions, low profile for boosted applications and a mid rise version with runner length, taper and size that is appropriate for 420" ish engines making peak numbers between 7000 and 7500. Flow designed using CFD (Computational Flow Diagnostics) within Solidworks 3d software.

I'm surprised that there is such a lack of manifold choices at this point for Gen 3. Will see if made in the USA is even possible, but making no commitment to that for now. Will be very nice and not $4800 like the other billet offering.

Not trying to hijack Steves post. I believe the more choices the better for these engines. They are the future of our Mopar hot rods.

The lack of options has to do with the lack of market,
but as more and more Cars and older body Swaps happen the more the market will open up.
Truck guys are limited to options because of Cab over hang into the engine bay.
Height is the big issue on after market intakes...but I have faith in you guys.
A taller deck block would be nice down the road, but the width of the G3 will hinder that

Another thing I would like to point out is, keep in mind most of the "builds" that happen are in the 370-400 inch area right now,
5.7 blocks ae still the major base block for many builds.

Again I and many others appreciate the R&D and effort your both putting in to this.

Is the overall height going to be taller than the 6.1 intake?

Never mind, I just went back up and saw that it will mimic the height of the 6.1.

Looks cool, what is the reason for having no taper in the runners?

Just curious, why is there a deep tapered belly below the inlet of the runners? All intakes that I have seen have plenum above the inlet of the runners? Am I missing something here? Not criticizing, just learning.

Im gonna guess the plenum is like that so the throttle body can go in the stock location

there won't be enough volume above the runner if the top is put on right there.

there is no taper to the runners because the runners are stock material that was cut to length. 5-10 degree taper is usually what you need to an engine like this. the runners are the hardest part. making the flanges is easy.

looks good for a first attempt. I'd be curious as to how well it works. definitely a higher rpm intake than the factory one with the short runners.

In a boosted application the taper probably means little. NA the taper determines at what rpm torque and hp are created along with the runner length. That's why Pro Stock racers keep their manifolds covered.

Google "intake runner taper" or even "efi intake runner taper" and you'll get quite a few links to discussions on the subject.

Long story short, the three basic tuning parameters of an intake manifold are runner length, runner taper, and plenum volume.

not knocking your build, but I've spent a fair amount of time researching and running design simulations on various intake designs and have cnc machined some runners for viper engines over the years. I applaud your effort in trying something new and I hope it works out well.

just giving an opinion that the runners seem to too tall and straight and there isn't enough plenum above them to draw air straight it. maybe its the angle of the pic. its also the reason the factory runs curved runners. its easier to package length in an arc. obviously not so easy to do in a weldment with a one off like you're doing.

also tapering the runners add a "ram" effect to the incoming air. as air is pushed through progressively smaller openings its sped up and this aids in fuel mixing. if you have a pipe like you;ve built you create a laminar edge along the surface of the runner of slow moving air. having a taper minimizes this. also you create a step at the head as the shape of the port changes, this creates an orifice which also creates a pressure drop. lots of engineering hours go into designing these things for optimum use. however there are always compromises, some of them are available materials so you build the best you can. again I applaud your work. I hope it works well.

My comments regarding tapered runners was me being facetious

We are trying out some already proven designs we're using on a couple of lsx based motors
On the Hemi
I already see several places I want changed as we progress

This particular version is going on a high rpm big cid n/a build making in the area of 900
Rwhp in a dedicated drag car that should by grace of god be running eights this season

I have a second version coming together for a four 392 cid blown
Application which should allow us to turn up the boost numbers without splitting the
Stock intake

But. Our intention is to do this with u.s. Made product
By U.S. military combat vet owned business and to keep the product in a very competitive price range
I don't feel it will do everything great. But it should be able to
Be trailered towards a specific build with ease

Now Brian smith has a much more thought out product I feel and I think his is modular
Had I though of that I would have gone that route

Our current runners are extrusions. So there are no seams ect that will need clean up
So it will help in our pricing to the end user. Or at least that's the hope

Already looks better than any of the crap I've cut up and welded back together.

Is their any interference issues with a cable operated throttle body?
On the second manifold that you plan to fabricate for boost applications will you have some weld bungs and what is the location/s of the bungs. I know you are still working on the first intake, but just food for thought when you start on it. I am interested in the boosted manifold.

I have a fast xfi throttle body here I can test that with though

Weld bungs for vacuum lines and boost reference signals. If I had to drill and tap for fittings the aluminum sheet metal would be too thin to have sufficient thread engagement for fittings.

That looks like exactly where the top ended up. There are some confusing design aspects like the runner entry clearance and the big drop of the plenum floor that don't look right to me. I still hope it works because of all the effort the OP put into it.

Are you only going to assemble front entrance intakes? Im interested in trying a modified top entrance piece for my Super Stocker.
