tough choice on computers and transmissions - 01/03/17 04:54 AM

I am struggling with sticking to the plan of using the NAG1 transmission with my 6.1 hemi swap.
The Holley Dominator EFI running a 4L80E and a 6.1 under boost would be nice/easier..
Anyone here have experience with the Holley set up or the transmission?

Quite honestly, I think the Holley EFI and 4l80E would be an awesome combo with less wiring troubles. I have seen very few Nag-1 swaps and I am sure they work but I bet they are way more hassle than the 4l80E.

I have to send Hotwire my computers and for $1800 I get a harness which should run the engine and transmission. I believe I need their tone ring to supply wheel speed inputs. Then the driveshaft shop has an adapter that will bolt to the NAG1 flange and allow a 1350 bolt on yoke to be installed on the output shaft.
I know people are tuning the '06 mopar factory computers for use with blowers and turbos. I just don't know much about how they go about it. I doubt it is as easily accessible as the interface seems to be with the holley set up. I believe at some point in the next couple years I will be throwing forged internals in the 6.1 and adding boost. Not sure the aftermarket will spend much time supporting the NAG1 much beyond what they currently offer. Seems like the LX guys start finding the limits of a stock NAG1 at around the mid 10 second range. I would like to see high nines at 4000 lbs.
As always, it boils down to money, and whether I pay now or later.

I still say the Holley/4l80E is the way to go, easy to tune, great trans, Awesome support, etc.

Also, it seems less finicky to me. I know if I were to go this route the Holley would be my choice.

One last thing, EFI source makes the gold efi box for the hemi and recently introduced that box with a trans controller for the GM trans. All in one box like the holley. Give them a call and they can explain the system. Much cheaper than the Holley unit and there are several members here who swear by the gold box.

I have to be honest here From the research I've done about trans swaps behind these GenIIIs the 4l80 seams to be the trans you want.
There is a guy On Hemitruckclub that has some success with a built 46rh. and few more looking into using it.
for me I'm just going old school A833
